Well, that didn’t take long. Just days after Saw XI‘s screenwriter Patrick Melton confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter there’s trouble brewing behind the scenes, Lionsgate has removed the upcoming addition to the Saw franchise from its 2025 calendar. The vacated September 26, 2025 spot will now be occupied by The Strangers: Chapter 2.

“We haven’t heard anything since May,” stated Melton in an interview with THR. “It’s stalled at a managerial level. It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There’s higher-level things at play.”

The second entry in the planned The Strangers reboot trilogy stars Madelaine Petsch, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath. Renny Harlin directs from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

“I promise that we’re making The Strangers: Chapter 2 as terrifying as possible, and I can’t wait to show you on September 26,” said Petsch in an Instagram video.

Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Alastair Burlingham, and Charlie Dombek serve as producers.

“Like Strangers fans everywhere, we’re thrilled for Chapter 2 — it’s the kind of film that’ll have audiences watching through their fingers,” said producers Solomon and Canton. “Bringing it to theaters this Halloween season feels perfect, and we can’t wait for everyone to see where the story goes next.”

The Strangers: Chapter 1 opened in theaters on May 17, 2024 and grossed $48 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
