‘Thoroughbreds’ Trailer #2 Debuts Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke

Focus Features just unveiled a new one-minute trailer for the thriller Thoroughbreds. The edgy drama features one of the final feature film performances by actor Anton Yelchin (the Star Trek franchise, Terminator Salvation). Yelchin was killed in a freak accident on June 19, 2016 when his Jeep rolled down his driveway and pinned him against a pillar.

The film completed shooting in 2016 and had a run on the festival circuit in 2017, resulting in an 84% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com calls the film “a razor-sharp horror/satire that plays like an update of Heavenly Creatures for the era of the Kardashians.”

Thoroughbreds was written and directed by Cory Finley. In addition to Anton Yelchin, the cast includes Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch), and Paul Sparks (House of Cards, The Girlfriend Experience).

Declan Baldwin, B. Ted Deiker, and Ryan Stowell executive produced. Focus Features has set a March 9, 2018 domestic theatrical release.

The Plot: Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast.

Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.
