‘Tully’ New Trailer: Charlize Theron’s a Mom on the Verge of a Breakdown

Focus Features’ R-rated comedy Tully is showing off a new trailer starring Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Monster). In the film, Theron stars as a tired mom whose life gets a needed boost of energy with the arrival of a nanny.

Focus Features is set to open Tully in theaters on April 20, 2018.

In addition to Charlize Theron, the Tully cast includes Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire, That Awkward Moment), Mark Duplass (The Mindy Project, Manhunt: Unabomber), and Ron Livingston (Loudermilk, The Conjuring). Tully marks a reunion of actress Theron, director Jason Reitman, and writer Diablo Cody. Theron, Reitman, and Cody previously teamed up on 2011’s Young Adult, a comedy/drama that had Theron playing a young adult book writer who tries to get over her writers block by heading back to her hometown.

Prior to Young Adult, director Reitman and screenwriter Cody collaborated on 2007’s award-winning independent coming-of-age comedy/drama, Juno. The indie gem featured Ellen Page, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, and Michael Cera, and was nominated for four Oscars including Best Picture and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Ellen Page). Cody won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for her first screenplay.

Theron was recently seen in The Fate of the Furious, Atomic Blonde, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and Mad Max: Fury Road. She stars opposite Joel Edgerton, David Oyelowo, and Amanda Seyfried in the action comedy Gringo, opening in theaters on March 9, 2018.

The Plot: Marlo (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).
