20th Century Fox’s new video from War for the Planet of the Apes takes viewers behind the scenes and provides a detailed look at WETA Digital’s process of transforming actors into their ape characters via performance capture technology. The two and a half minute video provides behind the scenes footage of the actors in their motion capture suits as well as the resulting CG apes.

“The way that you can read genuine emotion has reached another level,” says Andy Serkis (‘Caesar’). “It looks insanely realistic. It’s just such a brilliant technology and I’ve embraced it. I actively want to push the boundaries so that this movie is the most thrilling on every single level.”

War for the Planet of the Apes was written by Matt Reeves and Mark Bomback, with Reeves directing. The cast includes Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer and Terry Notary. 20th Century Fox will launch the latest Apes film in theaters on July 14, 2017.

The Plot: In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
