Love the cast, love the premise, and the trailer does a terrific job of selling the coming-of-age film. In fact, it’s one of the few 2013 trailers that made me move the film it’s promoting up on my must-see list. The movie I’m talking about: The Way, Way Back. The Way, Way Back was snatched up after its Sundance premiere and the studio’s aiming for a July 5, 2013 release. Directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the cast includes Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Toni Collette, Rob Corddry, Amanda Peet, Allison Janney, AnnaSophia Robb, and Liam James.
The Way, Way Back is the funny and poignant coming-of-age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Carell), and his daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up and begins to finally find his place in the world—all during a summer he will never forget.
