‘Young Woman and the Sea’ Trailer Starring Daisy Ridley

Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel, in Disney’s Young Woman and the Sea. The official trailer for the inspirational drama shows a determined Trudy ready to face the elements (and jellyfish) despite the incredible danger.

The cast also includes Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. Jeff Nathanson adapted Glenn Stout’s Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World and Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) directed.

“Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905,” reads Disney’s synopsis. “Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England.”

Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson serve as producers. Executive producers include Ridley, Rønning, and John G. Scotti.

Young Woman and the Sea will open in select theaters on May 31, 2024.
