Grammy Award-winning artist Cher will be honored with the ICON Award during the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. This year’s show, which will air live on ABC on Sunday, May 21st at 5pm PT/8pm ET, will also mark the first time Cher has performed on an awards show in more than 15 years. Cher is confirmed to perform her chart-topping 1998 single, “Believe,” off of her 23rd album during the Billboard Music Awards. “Believe” earned the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and is one of the biggest-selling singles in history.

“I’m honored to receive the 2017 Billboard Music Awards ICON Award and take the stage to celebrate my love of music with my fans,” stated Cher. “Seeing so many powerful artists – especially female artists emerge and take their place in history through the years has been incredible. I’m honored to be amongst the previous ICON Award winners and to celebrate this milestone achievement by performing ‘Believe’ on the show.”

“Cher’s incredible talent has inspired both audiences and other artists for more than six decades,” added Allen Shapiro, CEO, dick clark productions. “Her impact on the industry has been monumental and unlike any other. We are honored to celebrate her exceptional career with the 2017 Billboard Music Awards ICON Award and look forward to what’s sure to be an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime performance!”

The ICON Award is the most recent in a long string of awards Cher has collected over her 50-year career. She’s earned an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, three Golden Globes, a Cannes Film Festival Award, and a People’s Choice Award, and Cher’s the first female artist to have singles make the Top 10 chart in each decade from the 1980s to the 2000s.
