2011 Emmy Winners and Nominees

Emmys LogoGlee‘s queen of mean, Jane Lynch, hosted the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18, 2011 and while she was nominated for her supporting performance as Sue Sylvester, it was a Modern Family night when it came to the comedy categories. The Modern Family group claimed 5 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Supporting Actress (Julie Bowen), and Supporting Actor (Ty Burrell – winning over his co-stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, and Eric Stonestreet).

Modern Family was the clear comedy winner, but Emmy voters spread the wealth around in the dramatic categories. Game of Thrones, Justified, The Good Wife, Friday Night Lights, and Boardwalk Empire all felt a little Emmy love, while Mad Men was shut out in the acting and writing categories but still emerged with the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy. Mad Men‘s win moved it into a tie with Hill Street Blues, L.A Law, and The West Wing as the only shows who’ve earned four consecutive Emmys in that category.
