Fox has signed up Broadway star Aaron Tveit to play Danny Zuko in the live music event Grease: Live. Tveit joins a cast led by Julianne Hough as Sandy, Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, and Keke Palmer as Marty. The network also announced Carlos PenaVega will be playing Danny’s BFF, Kenickie.

Grease: Live will be directed by Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski. Kail will handle the stage direction while Rudzinski is the live television director. Based on the Grease musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, this live TV version will be adapted by Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins.

Fox has set a January 31, 2016 airdate.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be joining this incredibly talented team of actors in reimagining this classic and beloved musical,” stated Tveit. “Playing ‘Danny Zuko’ is a dream role and I can’t wait to be a part of all the fun that comes along with performing live on television.”

Tveit’s credits include the film adaptation of Les Miserables and roles in TV’s Graceland, Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, Ugly Betty, and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

PenaVega played Carlos Garcia in Big Time Rush, and had roles in Spare Parts, E.R., and Summerland.
