If you’re not caught up on American Idol, read no further…spoiler ahead for anyone who hasn’t seen the May 3, 2012 episode. (That’s why we’re using a photo of the final 5 rather than the remaining 4.)

We’ve moved one step closer to crowning the winner of the 11th season of American Idol. Following the May 2nd show – of the best in American Idol history – it was anyone’s guess who wouldn’t survive the cut from five finalists to four. Each of the final five contestants impressed the judges, and with a season-high of 60 million votes cast they also apparently impressed the TV audience. But one had to leave and once all the votes were tabulated, it was Country singer Skylar Laine who wound up eliminated this week.

The final four finalists – Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez – will next try to win over voters on Wednesday, May 9th, during a “California Dreamin'”-themed show. The top three, who will be revealed on Thursday, May 10th, will then get to head back to their hometowns to visit with family, friends, and fans.

Also on May 10th, American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez will be performing “Dance Again” on the show and AI season seven winner David Cook will take the stage to perform “The Last Song I’ll Write for You.”
