Newcomer Arrival took third at the box office over its first weekend in release, performing better than most prognosticators expected but not strong enough to knock Doctor Strange or Trolls out of the top two spots. The sci-fi drama earned a B rating from audiences, according to Cinemascore, with the majority of the ticket buyers males over age 25. Arrival may see an uptick in business as we get further into awards season as Amy Adams is being mentioned as a possible Best Actress Oscar nominee.

Doctor Strange won’t be three-peating in first place as next weekend will see the release of Warner Bros’ much-anticipated new Harry Potter film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Eddie Redmayne. The film marks J.K. Rowling’s first as a screenwriter and is based on the book used by Hogwarts students.
