Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns, The Deep, Contraband) will be directing Vikingr, an action drama which Universal Pictures has just picked up. Kormakur and Olafur Egill Egilsson wrote the film, however there’s no word yet on the cast or when the movie will head into production.

According to Universal Pictures’ official announcement, Vikingr is “based on the classic tales deriving from the legendary Icelandic Sagas, which document larger than life heroes, adventures and battles of early Nordic settlers, as well as daily life in the Viking age.”

Kormakur, Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Nathalie Marciano are producing.

Kormakur’s currently in post-production on Everest starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Josh Brolin, and Vikings star Clive Standen.
