Ben Affleck is the People’s Choice Awards’ Favorite Humanitarian

Ben Affleck Earns Humanitarian Award from People's Choice Awards

The annual Hollywood popularity contest known as the People’s Choice Awards has named Oscar winner Ben Affleck as the winner of their Favorite Humanitarian award. Affleck was chosen to receive the special honor for his work with Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI), which he founded in 2010. ECI’s mission is to assist the Congolese people with the “quality and quantity of investments in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.” Past Humanitarian Award recipients include Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Hudson.

Affleck will pick up the award during the 2015 People’s Choice Awards to be held on January 7, 2015. The awards show will air on CBS at 9pm ET (live)/PT (taped). Mom stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney will be handling hosting duties.

“We are so pleased to honor Ben with the 2015 People’s Choice Humanitarian Award,” said executive producer Mark Burnett. “This award has become an important part of our show. It highlights a different side of a celebrity and helps bring awareness to a cause that our audience can support.”

People’s Choice Awards Nominees

Affleck won the Best Motion Picture of the Year Oscar for producing Argo in 2012 and also won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar back in 1997 for Good Will Hunting. He recently finished up work on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in which he plays Bruce Wayne/Batman.
