Benedict Cumberbatch Will Be Honored by the British Academy

In addition to having the coolest name ever, Benedict Cumberbatch will soon have a brand new award to add to his trophy shelf. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles® (BAFTA Los Angeles) has announced they’ll be honoring Cumberbatch with The Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year at the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards to be held on November 9, 2013 in Los Angeles. BBC America will air the awards show on November 10th at 8pm ET.
 
Cumberbatch will be joining a list of Britannia Award recipients that includes Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Blunt, Michael Sheen, and Rachel Weisz. The award is given to a “talented British artist whose outstanding performances in a year have demonstrated the high quality of their craftsmanship. Whether an emerging talent, or an established name, the British Artist of the Year honors a person who represents the best of UK’s talent.”
 
“Benedict Cumberbatch has had a remarkable year, and as one of the UK’s leading talents he truly exemplifies the continued respect that British talents have garnered around the globe,” stated Gary Dartnall, Chairman, BAFTA Los Angeles. “Masterfully performing in TV, Film and Theatre and never failing to astound us with his talent and versatility, BAFTA Los Angeles is proud to honor Benedict as our British Artist of the Year.”
 
Also set to be honored at the BAFTA Los Angeles event is George Clooney who will be given the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film award. Kathryn Bigelow will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing and Sir Ben Kingsley has been announced as the winner of the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.
