Showtime confirmed they’ll be ending the popular series The Big C with its fourth season. The shortened fourth/final season will consist of just four one-hour episodes.

Showtime President David Nevins made the announcement about the during the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Nevins wouldn’t give away any clues as to how the cancer comedy starring Laura Linney would end. He did say it’s important for the network that all of its series are able to plan and executive their endings the right way. Commenting on the four episode one-hour final The Big C season, Nevins said, “They’ve got a very interesting and novel – and I think sort of form-breaking – way to handle where the show is going.”
