‘Black Panther’ Starring Chadwick Boseman Begins Filming

Marvel Studios announced filming is now underway on Black Panther starring Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up) in the title role. The cast of the comic book inspired action film also includes Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station), Lupita Nyong’o (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Martin Freeman (Sherlock), Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario), Angela Bassett (American Horror Story), Forest Whitaker (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Andy Serkis (the Hobbit films). Creed‘s Ryan Coogler is directing from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story).


Letitia Wright (Urban Hymn), Winston Duke (Person of Interest), Florence Kasumba (Captain America: Civil War), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), and John Kani (Coriolanus) also star in the superhero film. The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Rachel Morrison, production designer Hannah Beachler, editors Claudia Castello and Michael P. Shawver, costume designer Ruth E. Carter, visuals effects supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, makeup designer Joel Harlow, and special effects supervisor Dan Sudick. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee are executive producing.

Filming will be taking place in Atlanta and South Korea. Disney and Marvel have set a February 16, 2018 theatrical release date.

The Plot: Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
