Season two doesn’t premiere until January 24, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, however, Starz has just given Black Sails a third season order. The second season will consist of 10 episodes, and Toby Stephens, Hannah New, and Luke Arnold will be back in starring roles.

Season one set a record for a new series when it debuted in January 2014 and then went on to collect an average of 5.3 million viewers per episode over the run of the first season.

Jonathan Steinberg created the pirate drama and executive produces along with Robert Levine, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form.

“The incredible world that Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have created continues to unfold in season two. Flint’s journey is riveting, and around him, Jon and Robert have woven an intricate web of conflict, betrayal, and redemption for the other characters that we believe will keep fans of the show coming back for more,” said Carmi Zlotnik, managing director of Starz. “We think that season three will bring even more of the drama and lore that has made it a hit both in the U.S. and internationally.”

The Plot of Season One:

Black Sails centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island. Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.
