It was a battle of the box office holdovers as Jurassic World and Inside Out continued to fight it out for first and second place while newcomers Terminator Genisys and Magic Mike XXL didn’t live up to expectations. Although 2009’s Terminator Salvation was blasted by critics and fans, it did gross $42 million domestically in its first three days in theaters. Terminator Genisys‘ extended five day holiday weekend only managed a $44 million take which could mean the end of the Terminator franchise is at hand. Meanwhile the second Magic Mike movie had to settle for a fourth place finish, ringing up $27 million domestically. Although the numbers weren’t great, Magic Mike XXL‘s budget was in the $15 million range which means Warner Bros isn’t that worried about the smaller-than-anticipated opening weekend box office results.
