Box Office Report: ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ Outperforms the Return of Winnie the Pooh

The combined forces of Ewan McGregor, Winnie the Pooh, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, and Tigger weren’t enough to push Tom Cruise’s action-packed thriller Mission: Impossible – Fallout out of the top spot at the box office. The second weekend of the PG-13 action drama collected an additional $35 million, upping its domestic gross to $124 million since opening in theaters on July 27, 2018.

Disney’s Christopher Robin earned decent reviews from both critics and ticket buyers, but it didn’t quite live up to pre-release estimates over its opening weekend at the box office. The PG-rated family film is sitting at 68% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and picked up an A rating from moviegoers, according to Cinemascore.

Looking ahead to next weekend, Mission: Impossible – Fallout will be battling Warner Bros. Pictures’ gigantic shark film, The Meg starring Jason Statham and a massive CGI shark, for first place. Screen Gems is sending the horror film Slender Man directed by Sylvain White (The Losers, Stomp the Yard) into theaters on August 10th, and Focus Features has BlacKkKlansman from Spike Lee also set to challenge Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

LD will be getting a jump on the weekend by opening the romantic comedy Dog Days on Wednesday, August 8th.
