The August 28-30, 2015 weekend was a horrible one at the box office, with Box Office Mojo reporting it was the lowest grossing weekend of the year thus far. And The Hollywood Reporter reports that one of the weekend’s new releases, We Are Your Friends starring Zac Efron, earned the dubious distinction of the “worst opening of all time for a new major studio offering opening in 2,000 or more theaters, not accounting for inflation.” The only films to emerge with decent numbers were box office champ Straight Outta Compton and newcomer War Room, a faith-based drama directed by Alex Kendrick (Courageous). Straight Outta Compton ultimately retained its title for the third week in a row, but War Room gave it a real run for its money and even outgrossed the N.W.A. biopic on Friday.
