Here’s an interesting turn of events: There is a Gambit movie in the works, but it won’t be starring Taylor Kitsch. Kitsch played the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, however in an interview with Total Film, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner revealed it’ll be Channing Tatum – soon to be seen in 22 Jump Street – who’ll take on the character.

X-Men: Apocalypse film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and then Fox will give the character his own spin-off film.

If everything works as Shuler Donner is expecting, then Gambit could be heading to theaters in 2018.

During the interview with Total Film, Shuler Donner explained why Tatum will be great for Gambit. “Well, you know, he’s a rogue – Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action, we all know that! And he’s got a really good heart because I know him personally; I did a movie with him.”

Shuler Donner went on to explain that Tatum’s a Southerner too and that he understands that world.
