Fox has found its Martin Riggs. The network’s tapped Clayne Crawford to star in its Lethal Weapon series, taking on the role of Martin Riggs played by Mel Gibson in the film franchise. Crawford will star opposite Damon Wayans Sr. who’s set to play Roger Murtaugh. The dramatic series also has Jordana Brewster (the Fast and Furious films), Golden Brooks (Heart of Dixie, Blunt Talk), and Kevin Rahm (Bates Motel, Madam Secretary) confirmed as cast members.

Crawford’s credits include Rectify, 24, All Signs of Death, The Baytown Disco, and Justified. He recently completed work on the sci-fi action movie Spectral with James Badge Dale and Emily Mortimer.

Per Fox, Martin Riggs is described as “a former Navy SEAL and Texas cop who suffers the loss of his wife and baby and tries to start anew by moving to Los Angeles and a new job at the LAPD, where he is partnered with Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans, Sr.).” The series will be executive produced by Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin, and Jennifer Gwartz. McG is on board to direct the pilot from a script by Miller.

Mel Gibson and Danny Glover starred in four Lethal Weapon films over an 11 year period. Lethal Weapon opened in 1987 followed by Lethal Weapon 2 in 1989, Lethal Weapon 3 in 1992, and Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998.
