The casting rumors have been confirmed: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have committed to starring in season two of HBO’s True Detective. According to HBO, the eight-episode series will begin shooting later this year in California.

Justin Lin (the Fast and Furious franchise) is attached to direct the first two episodes of the new season. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote both season one and season two.

The first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and his offscreen friend Woody Harrelson, won five Emmys, a Critics’ Choice Award, and a Television Critics Association Award.

Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

The Cast:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
