Just days after Lakeshore Entertainment announced Jennifer Connelly’s co-starring with Ewan McGregor in American Pastoral comes news that Dakota Fanning has also signed on to the film. According to the official announcement, Fanning will play McGregor and Connelly’s daughter, Merry. Based on the award-winning novel by Philip Roth, American Pastoral will be directed by Philip Noyce from a screenplay by John Romano (Lincoln Lawyer).
“The role of ‘Merry’ is an extremely complex part, and I believe that Dakota Fanning will break our hearts with her performance,” said Lakeshore President Gary Lucchesi.
Filming will take place in Pittsburgh next March.
The Plot:
American Pastoral follows Seymour “Swede” Levov, a legendary high school athlete, who grows up to marry a former beauty queen and inherits his father’s business. Swede’s seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter rebels by becoming a revolutionary and committing a deadly act of political terrorism during the Vietnam War.
