The psychological thriller Beneath the Darkness starring Dennis Quaid will have a theatrical release this November, so says Image Entertainment, Inc. Image just announced they’ve acquired the North American rights to the dramatic film and will be launching it in theaters prior to its release on VOD and PPV.

Beneath the Darkness was directed by Martin Guigui from a script by Bruce Wilkinson. The film also features Tony Oller (Nickelodeon’s Gigantic) and Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights).

Image Entertainment’s Chief Acquisitions Officer Bill Bromiley made the announced of the pick up at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. “The role that Dennis Quaid plays in Beneath the Darkness is such a departure from his other roles,” stated Bromiley. “As good a hero as he has always made, he is an amazingly terrifying villain in this film. It’s certain to have audiences on the edge of their seats. Image is pleased to add this to our release schedule this year.”

The Story:

Ely (Dennis Quaid) is a well-respected mortician in a town where he was once a heralded high school football star. Among the kids, however, he is legendary for a more sinister reason — rumors that his house is haunted. The truth is, the town leader murdered his first wife and her lover and now lives in the house with his wife’s embalmed corpse! This pillar of the community is actually a flesh-and-blood monster who buries his victims alive; a sociopath who befriends adults and police while openly flaunting his murderous intentions to the youths. He will kill anyone who threatens to expose him or his now seemingly perfect marriage.
