Five episodes into season one and BBC America has decided to give Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency an order for a second season. Season one is currently airing on Saturdays at 9pm ET/PT and is set to wrap up its first season on December 10, 2016. According to BBC America and AMC, season two will consist of 10 new one-hour episodes to premiere in 2017.

The original scripted series is based on Douglas Adams’ popular novels. Max Landis (Chronicle) writes and executive produces with showrunner Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe), Arvind Ethan David, Zainir Aminullah, Ted Adams, David Ozer, David Alpert, and Rick Jacobs. Dirk Gently’s season one stars Elijah Wood, Samuel Barnett, Fiona Dourif, Hannah Marks, Jade Eshete, a Corgi, and a kitten.

“Outlandishly different, Dirk Gently has hit a sweet spot with BBCA fans,” said BBC America President Sarah Barnett. “With Elijah Wood and Samuel Barnett’s chemistry as oddball detective/sidekick duo, and our creators promising ever greater genius-weird cosmic mystery in the next case, we’re happy to announce more of this truly original and entertaining show.”

The Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency Plot: The series is set in the unexpected world of the hyper, absurd, eponymous detective Dirk Gently (Barnett). Dirk Gently, is a serialized comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd (Wood), as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.
