Director Edgar Wright Leaves ‘Ant-Man’

Edgar Wright leaves Ant-Man

Director Edgar Wright has been actively involved in the Ant-Man movie for nearly a decade and back in 2010 he was working on the script back with an eye on making the Marvel project his next film as a director (check out our interview from the 2010 MTV Movie Awards red carpet). Yet after all these years with the movie, and with production about to begin, Wright’s decided to step down as director.

According to the official announcement of his departure, Wright’s reason for leaving has to do with creative differences. “Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Marvel’s Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly,” read the statement posted on Marvel.com.

Wright co-wrote the script with Attack the Block‘s Joe Cornish and there’s no word on whether the creative differences involved script change requests. Paul Rudd remains attached to play Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas is on board as Hank Pym.

Wright’s feature film directing credits include The Worlds End, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Hot Fuzz, and Shaun of the Dead.
