Emilia Clarke’s going from sharing the screen with CGI dragons to working with a Wookie. The Game of Thrones star has just signed on to the cast of the untitled Han Solo stand-alone Star Wars film. StarWars.com broke the news that Clarke will be heading to a galaxy far, far away along with previously confirmed cast members Alden Ehrenreich (Rules Don’t Apply, Beautiful Creatures) who’s playing Han and Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta), set to take on the role of a younger Lando Calrissian. 21 Jump Street‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing the stand-alone film.
It’s unknown who Clarke will play in the Han Solo film which is set prior to the original Star Wars films. Lucasfilm and Disney are targeting a May 25, 2018 theatrical release.
In addition to playing Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, Clarke’s credits include Me Before You, Terminator Genisys, and Dom Hemingway. Clarke’s been nominated for three Primetime Emmys for her role in Game of Thrones, and earned four Screen Actors Guild nominations as part of the cast of the HBO fantasy series.
