First Photo: Johnny Depp in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer just tweeted the first photo of Johnny Depp back as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Depp had been on a break from shooting after suffering an injury, but Bruckheimer says he’s back at work on the fifth film of the blockbuster franchise.

Kon-Tiki‘s Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning are directing from a script by Jeff Nathanson. In addition to Depp, the Dead Men Tell No Tales cast includes Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally, Stephen Graham, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, and Javier Bardem.

Disney’s releasing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in theaters on July 7, 2017.

The Plot:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
