6.1 million viewers tuned in to check out the new version of Flowers in the Attic on Lifetime during its January 18, 2014 premiere. Based on the V.C. Andrews book published in 1979 and directed by Deborah Chow (The High Cost of Living), this new take on the bestseller pulled in enough viewers to make it cable’s most-watched original movie since November 2012.

The book’s sequel, Petals on the Wind, is already being developed by Lifetime. In all, Andrews published five books that involved the Dollanganger and Foxworth families introduced in Flowers in the Attic. And more than 106 million copies of the books have been sold.

The Flowers in the Attic Plot:

Starring Heather Graham, Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award-winner Ellen Burstyn, Kiernan Shipka, Mason Dye, and Dylan Bruce, Flowers in the Attic weaves the twisted story of the Dollanganger kids who, after the unexpected death of their father, are convinced by their mother Corrine (Graham) to stay hidden in the attic of their wealthy grandparents’ mansion so she can reclaim the family fortune. But as her visits begin to wane after she becomes involved with a new husband (Bruce), the children endure unimaginable treatment at the hands of their ruthless grandmother Olivia Foxworth (Burstyn). As years go by and the eldest children Cathy (Shipka) and Christopher (Dye) come of age, both emotionally and physically, their family’s sordid past entraps them further as they look to each other for comfort.

Lifetime will be rerunning Flowers in the Attic on Saturday, January 25th at 10pm ET/PT.
