Following its world premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Magnolia Pictures has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Force Majeure. Force Majeure won the coveted Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at Cannes and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Force Majeure is a brilliantly executed razor of a film, hilarious, heartbreaking and absurd, and sometimes all at once. The post-movie dinner conversations should be very interesting,” stated Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles.

“I am very happy that Magnolia will bring my film to the US audiences and I really think that the content of Force Majeure is even more interesting in an North American context” said director Ruben Östlund.

The Plot: Force Majeure tells the story of a Swedish family on a pleasant ski vacation in the French Alps. During a lunch at a mountainside restaurant, a looming avalanche turns everything upside down. With diners fleeing in all directions, the mother shields her children. Meanwhile, the father grabs his iPhone and runs for his life. When the anticipated disaster fails to occur, a marriage hangs in the balance and family dynamics are upended in this wickedly funny psychodrama.
