George Lucas took home his first-ever Emmy for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, earning the award in the Outstanding Special Class-Animation category. Overall, the fifth season of the series earned seven nominations at the 40th Anniversary Daytime Emmy® Awards which took place on June 16, 2013 in Beverly Hills. And in addition to Lucas’ win, Doctor Who‘s David Tennant won the Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program Emmy for his voice work as ‘Huyang’ in The Clone Wars.

Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia announced the nominees, poking fun at awards attendee Ozzy Osbourne and talking about how dropping acid could lead to some awesome animation, before handing the Emmy to her Star Wars director.

Accepting his first Emmy, Lucas said, “We’ve been out there for a while and we’re very proud to finally get an Emmy.”
