‘Grace and Frankie’ Earns a Fifth Season on Netflix

Netflix just confirmed the critically acclaimed series Grace and Frankie has been renewed for a fifth season. In addition, Netflix announced RuPaul has joined the cast as a season five guest star. RuPaul will be playing Benjamin Le Day, a character described as “a formidable and quick-witted adversary who faces off with Grace and Frankie.”

Season four arrived on the streaming service on January 19, 2018. Season five is expected to air in 2019.

The series stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in the title roles. The cast also includes Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, Brooklyn Decker, June Diane Raphael, Ethan Embry, and Baron Vaughn. Grace and Frankie was created by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris and is executive produced by Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Marta Kauffman, Howard J. Morris, Paula Weinstein, John Hoffman, Billy Finnegan, Robbie Tollin, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross.

Season five guest star RuPaul has been named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. RuPaul hosts the popular reality competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race and has collected two Primetime Emmy Awards.

Grace and Frankie’s third season was nominated for nine major television awards, including Primetime Emmy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for the show’s stars, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Grace and Frankie season three also earned a Writers Guild Award nomination, an NAACP Image Award nomination, a Costume Designers Guild nomination, and two Makeup and Hairstyling awards nominations.

The Plot: In Grace and Frankie, Jane Fonda (“Grace”) and Lily Tomlin (“Frankie”) star as two women whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, Grace and Frankie form an unlikely and unbreakable bond and face their uncertain futures head-on, hand-in-hand. Together with their ex-husbands and children, they discover the true definition of “family,” with laughter, tears and plenty of mood enhancers along the way.
