Carly Rae Jepsen Gets the ‘Grease: Live’ Call

Grammy nominee Carly Rae Jepsen has joined the cast of Fox’s Grease: Live, taking on the role of Frenchy in the live musical special. Jepsen’s Grease: Live co-stars include Julianne Hough as Sandy, Aaron Tveit as Danny, Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, and Keke Palmer as Marty. David Del Rio was also just added to the cast and will play Putzie, with Kether Donohue added as Jan.

In addition, Fox revealed Grammy nominee Jessie J will sing a new version of “Grease (Is the Word)” to kick off the live broadcast.

Glee and Annie‘s Zach Woodlee has come on board the production as choreographer. Wicked‘s Marc Platt is executive producing, Thomas Kail is the director in charge of the stage direction, and Alex Rudzinski is the live television director. Jonathan Tolins and Robert Cary adapted the musical by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs for TV.

Grease: Live will air on Fox on January 31, 2016.

The Plot: Grease: Live will reintroduce and reimagine some of the show’s most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation. In this live television adaptation of the musical classic, the beginning of senior year means the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance – until Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Danny’s high school. With their friends pulling them in different directions, it’s up to Danny and Sandy to stay hopelessly devoted as they make their way from Rydell High to a new frontier.
