Relativity Studios has just made a deal for the U.S. distribution rights to Kidnap, a thriller starring Halle Berry. Kidnap is currently in development with director Luis Prieto attached and Berry set for a starring role and on board as an executive producer along with her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas.

First-time feature film writer Knate Gwaltney wrote the script and Di Bonaventure Pictures’ Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Erik Howsam are producing the film. Filming is expected to begin later this year.

According to the official announcement from Relativity Studios, Kidnap “is a heart-stopping action thriller following a mother (Berry) who will stop at nothing to rescue her kidnapped son.”

Berry’s been keeping busy with a lead role in the CBS summer series Extant. She was most recently seen reprising her role as Storm in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
