Tom Donahue’s documentary Casting By has been picked up by HBO Documentary Films for broadcast in the U.S. Currently on the festival circuit, Donahue’s documentary had its world premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film shines the spotlight on a group of entertainment industry professionals who hardly ever make the news, get interviewed, or are recognized for their work: casting directors. Actors and directors who contribute their personal observations about the mostly unacknowledged group include Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood, Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Jeff Bridges, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Diane Lane, Bette Midler and John Travolta.

Discussing the film and its acquisition by HBO, director Donahue stated: “The creation of Casting By was a collaborative process made in the spirit of the late Marion Dougherty to recognize these unsung heroes. We could not be more excited to have found the perfect home for our film at HBO.”

Donahue’s currently working on Thank You for Your Service which focuses on the treatment of veterans, the reintegration of returning soldiers into society, and how the process has changed over the decades [per CreativeChaos.
