AMC announced the popular Western series Hell on Wheels starring Anson Mount and Colm Meaney will return for a fifth season. Unfortunately for fans of the show, the fifth season will also be the show’s last. According to AMC, Hell on Wheels‘ fifth season will be split in two, with seven episodes airing over the summer of 2015 and seven airing during the summer of 2016.
Season four of the show has averaged 3.4 million viewers per week.
“With season five of Hell on Wheels, we are proud to bring our trans-continental journey to conclusion for the large, loyal audience that has traveled with Cullen Bohannon and his crew for so many years,” stated AMC President Charlie Collier, announcing the details on season five. “We look forward to appropriately honoring Hell on Wheels in this final season. Enormous thanks to the terrific writers, cast, and crew for all they have achieved and for all that lies ahead in the Wild West.”
