New Line Cinema and MGM announced advance tickets will go on sale on November 21, 2013 at 9am ET for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The much anticipated second film of The Hobbit series will arrive in theaters on December 13th (at midnight).

The first Hobbit‘s midnight screenings brought in $13 million domestically, paving the way for a billion-dollar worldwide theatrical run.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released in 3D 48 frames-per-second, High Frame Rate 3D, 3D, IMAX, and traditional 2D. Directed by Peter Jackson and based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom.

The Plot:

The film continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous Mirkwood Forest.

After escaping capture by the dangerous Woodland Elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all—a creature more terrifying than any before, which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself—the Dragon Smaug.
