NBC Greenlights a New Holiday Special

How Murray Saved ChristmasAnd no, I’m not excited about this new animated holiday special because my last name’s Murray…I just happen to be a big fan of animated holiday specials. The newest one is How Murray Saved Christmas, a holiday musical special from Emmy-winner Mike Reiss (The Simpsons). NBC is aiming for a December 2014 air date.

The hour-long special is based on Reiss’ children’s book. Reiss is executive producing the special and Walter Murphy is attached to compose the music. And Murphy has an impressive list of credits including an Oscar nomination for his work on Ted and four Emmy nominations for Family Guy.

Murray is the perfect project to get audiences into the holiday spirit, and Mike’s impressive comedic background makes him a great choice to put all the pieces together,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

The Plot:

The story centers on cranky deli owner Murray Kleiner, who is forced to fill in for Santa one Christmas and does a weirdly wonderful job.
