Filming is Underway on ‘Insurgent’ Starring Shailene Woodley

Insurgent Begins Filming

Production has begun on the second film of the Divergent franchise, Insurgent. Shailene Woodley and Theo James are back in starring roles, with Robert Schwentke (Red, R.I.P.D.) helming this sequel (Neil Burger directed the first film of the series). In addition to Woodley and James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort (who also stars with Woodley in The Fault in Our Stars), Maggie Q, and Mekhi Phifer reprise their roles from Divergent.

According to Lionsgate and Summit’s official announcement, Insurgent started shooting today in Atlanta.

Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman adapted Veronica Roth’s bestselling book for the screen. Divergent opened on March 21, 2014 and the studio’s aiming for a Friday, March 20, 2015 theatrical release of Insurgent. That will be followed on March 18, 2016 by Allegiant Part 1 and on March 24, 2017 by Allegiant Part 2.

The Plot:

Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the dystopian ruins of a futuristic Chicago.Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them.

Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
