Star Trek: Discovery has found its Sarek. James Frain (Gotham) has joined the cast of CBS’ new Star Trek series as Sarek, Spock’s father. The series will air on CBS All Access and is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth.

Star Trek: Discovery is expected to begin shooting this month, although it will no longer premiere in May 2017 as previously announced. Season one will consist of 13 one-hour episodes, with the premiere pushed to sometime later this year.

Frain joins a cast that includes The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green along with Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, and Chris Obi. Frain’s credits include Orphan Black, True Detective, True Blood, Agent Carter, Intruders, Grimm, The White Queen, and The Cape.

Commenting on the series in 2016, CBS President David Stapf said, “The series template and episodic scripts that Alex and Bryan have delivered are incredibly vivid and compelling. They are building a new, very ambitious Star Trek world for television, and everyone involved supports their vision for the best timing to bring to life what we all love on the page.”
