The original Flash star John Wesley Shipp has signed up for a recurring guest starring role on The CW and Warner Bros. Television’s new The Flash series. Shipp played Barry Allen (aka The Flash) on the CBS series that ran for one season back in the early ’90s.

The CW isn’t revealing much about who Shipp will play other than to say it’s a “mystery role” that should lead to more than one episode. The one hour drama will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter, and Melissa Kellner Berman, with Berlanti, Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns on board as writers. Nutter (Arrow, Game of Thrones, Disturbing Behavior) is attached to direct.

Glee‘s Grant Gustin will play Barry Allen, Candice Patton is set to play Iris West, Rick Cosnett is Detective Eddie Thawne, and Danielle Panabaker is Caitlin Snow. The cast also includes Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, and Jesse L. Martin as Detective West.

The Plot:

Through a freak accident, scientist Barry Allen is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive.
