Jurassic World stomped all over pre-release estimates, ringing up $204.6 million during its first weekend in theaters and earning the #2 spot in all-time domestic opening weekends. Only the first Avengers movie pulled in more during its opening weekend with a haul of $207 million. And not only did Jurassic World prove to be a huge draw domestically, but internationally the action film about a genetically engineered dinosaur who goes on the rampage also proved to be incredibly popular. Add in the international box office of $307.2 million and Jurassic World is a monster hit worldwide with $511 million overall.

Jurassic World now stands as Universal Pictures’ biggest opening weekend, and it should continue to be a huge draw as audiences have awarded it an A Cinema Score. Critics, including our own critic Ian Forbes, weren’t quite so enthusiastic about the new Jurassic film, although its score at Rotten Tomatoes is still in positive territory at 70% fresh.
