Controversial director Lars von Trier’s latest film, Nymphomaniac, has been acquired by Magnolia Pictures for US distribution. The deal was made following a special screening of material from the film to buyers.

Announcing the pick-up, Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles stated, “After the tremendous and never predictable experience of distributing Melancholia, we couldn’t be more excited to be working with Mr. von Trier again on the Nymphomaniac films. He’s such an exciting and talented filmmaker—it’s an honor and a thrill to be associated with his world.”

The cast includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Connie Nielsen, and Udo Kier. Production’s expected to be completed this year. There’s no word yet on when Magnolia hopes to release Nymphomaniac in theaters.
