Lucy Lawless has signed on for another TV series. Lawless, who recently joined the cast of WGN America’s Salem, has landed the role of Ruby on Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead. According to Starz, Ruby is “a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem: she believes that Ash (Bruce Campbell) is the cause of it all.”

Lawless joins a cast led by Campbell and featuring Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, and Jill Marie Jones. Ash vs Evil Dead is based on the Evil Dead world created by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert (Lawless’ hubby), and Bruce Campbell. Sam Raimi will be directing the first episode which he co-wrote with Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio, and Tom Spezialy. Raimi, DiGregorio, Tapert, and Campbell are executive producing, with DiGregorio also involved as the showrunner.

Filming is taking place in New Zealand and Starz is aiming for a late 2015 premiere.

The Plot: “Ash vs Evil Dead will be 10 half-hour episodes. Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons -personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.”
