Filming Begins on the ‘Magic Mike’ Sequel

Hunky strippers are heading back in front of the camera for the sequel to Magic Mike, Magic Mike XXL, according to a Tweet by the original film’s director. Steven Soderbergh won’t be back as director, but he’ll still be heavily involved in the sequel which has Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike‘s first assistant director/producer) at the helm. Soderbergh will be the sequel’s cinematographer and editor.

Channing Tatum’s back in the lead role and co-wrote the sequel with Reid Carolin.

Soderbergh tweeted a photo from the film’s set in Myrtle Beach where he’s apparently doing a little second unit photography. Soderbergh’s photo shows the camera operator is “Peter Andrews” which is his pseudonym. And we can safely assume the work in Myrtle Beach involves aerial shots as that’s what’s indicated on the clapboard – and there’s a helicopter in the photo.

Magic Mike XXL will open in theaters on July 1, 2015.
