Country Singer Mindy McCready Dead at 37

Troubled Country singer Mindy McCready was found dead on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at her home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Her death came one month after her boyfriend’s suicide which also took place on the porch of her house.

The Cleburne County Sheriff’s office confirmed McCready’s death, posting this statement on their official website:

At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17th, Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of gunshots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37-year-old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase. Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. Mcready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, and the matter will be fully investigated.”

McCready released a few popular singles in the ’90s that made Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, but she scored her first huge hit back in 1996 with the chart-topping single “Guys Do It All the Time.” However, the following years weren’t kind to McCready, who eventually became known more for her troubled personal life than for her music, even landing a stint on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010.

McCready is survived by two young sons.
