USA Network announced the dramatic thriller Mr. Robot will have an unusual release, arriving online prior to its broadcast premiere. Mr. Robot‘s pilot episode will have one of the “broadest-reaching pre-linear distribution plans in cable television history” according to USA, with the show available on digital and VOD outlets on May 27, 2015.

The show’s pilot already screened at the SXSW Festival in March where it earned the Audience Award. Mr. Robot is executive produced by Sam Esmail, Steve Golin, and Chad Hamilton and will have its broadcast premiere on June 24th.

“It is more important than ever to push boundaries in order to break through the clutter and reach new audiences,” said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network. “Mr. Robot, which has already garnered awards before it has even aired, gives us a unique opportunity to make some noise and drive word of mouth through this innovative pre-linear strategy.”

The Plot:

Mr. Robot follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world. The series also stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, and Martin Wallström.
