Tiffany Haddish hosted the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which aired on Monday, June 18th on MTV, and proved to a fantastic choice for the job. Haddish joked about hosting the show and all the firsts taking place at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards. “It’s been a year of firsts for black people. I’m the first black woman to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Black Panther is the first African-American movie to make a billion dollars, and The Quiet Place is the first film to scare black people outta talking in movie theaters, for real.”

Going into this year’s awards show, Black Panther and Stranger Things topped the list of movie and television nominees. They also wound up at the top of the winners list, with Black Panther and Stranger Things earning four awards each. When Best Villain winner Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan took the stage to accept his award, he launched a well-placed jab at Roseanne Barr. “I’m shocked that I won this award for best villain,” he said. “I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag.”

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman earned two awards – Best Hero and Best Performance in a Movie – and during his acceptance speech for Best Hero, he honored a real life hero. Boseman gave his award to James Shaw Jr, the hero who saved lives during the Waffle House shooting in Tennessee.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown wasn’t on hand to accept her award for Best Performance in a Show, however she did film her acceptance speech. In it, she struck out against bullying. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it,” stated Brown. “There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it, and neither should any of you.”
