Good news for Debra Messing fans: NBC’s given the dramatic series The Mysteries of Laura a full season order. The series has been averaging 10.4 million viewers over its first six episodes and has actually increased the viewership year-over-year in the Wednesday at 8pm timeslot, so signing off on a full season one order was probably not a difficult decision for the network.

The show, which will be sticking around for 22 episodes, stars Debra Messing as a NYPD homicide detective. The cast also includes Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, and Max Jenkins.

“Debra has effortlessly infused Laura with a relatability that is captivating audiences,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment, announcing the season one pickup. “We can’t wait to see how Laura will continue to evolve throughout the entire season.”

The Plot:

Debra Messing stars as Laura Diamond, a brilliant NYPD homicide detective who balances her “Columbo” day job with a crazy family life that includes two unruly twin boys and a soon-to-be ex-husband (Josh Lucas) — also a cop — who just can’t seem to sign the divorce papers. Between cleaning up after her boys and cleaning up the streets, she’d be the first to admit she has her “hot mess” moments in this hilariously authentic look at what it really means to be a “working mom” today. Somehow she makes it all work with the help of her sexy and understanding partner, and things becomes even more complicated when her husband ironically becomes her boss at the precinct. For Laura, every day is a high-wire balancing act.
